The Marlowes

The Marlowes is a specialist supported living service which has been developed to enable people with learning disabilities to live happy, healthy, safe lives and to achieve their full potential.

THE MARLOWES, HEMEL HEMPSTEAD

Our experienced and well-trained staff provide individualised care and Positive Behavioural Support to promote independence and choice. There is a universal commitment within the whole of Glenholme to treat those we support and their families with dignity and respect.

The Marlowes is a gated development of well-appointed studios and one-bedroom flats, providing greater independence and the opportunity to develop life skills. It is composed of two self-contained blocks and provides a safe environment for adults who may find mixed-use developments too challenging.

The Marlowes also includes a purpose-built block designed for those with Physical Disabilities. The new building contains single-bedroomed self-contained flats and each floor is served with a large disability-friendly lift. Each flat has level floor access, wet rooms, and widened doors for individuals using wheelchairs. Each has kitchen worktops that are height adjustable. Further personalisation can be made following an assessment of individual requirements.

The service also offers access to a large spacious warm communal flat that is staffed 24/7 for tenants to socialise or when they need a bit of extra support.

Tara Johnson

Registered Service Manager

I started work as a Support Worker for adults with Learning Disabilities & PBS needs in 2007 and there, I found my passion for support. I progressed to managing Learning Disability Supported Living Services & a Mental Health Outreach Service in 2015. Since this time, I have gained experience as a CQC Registered Manager and supported services in a Transformation Role. I have specialised in supporting quality improvement and fostering a positive environment for all.

As a Registered Manager, I lead a great team to provide the best care for the people we support. I support the clients and staff to be happy, healthy and safe to achieve their full potential. My passion is supporting people with learning disabilities to have the best quality of life and to be heard. I am an empathetic leader who is passionate about supporting people to achieve their goals.

Tara and her staff team have undergone extensive checks prior to employment to ensure that they have the skills and qualities we require when working with vulnerable people. They are trained in health & safety, basic first aid, abuse awareness (safeguarding), administering medicine, infection control and the care certificate as well as other bespoke training as required.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US

“My son has been a resident with Glenholme for over 6 years. Today he is the happiest and most comfortable that he has ever been. With the appointment of a new Management Team a little over a year ago, new practices have been put into place which I believe have benefitted the clients tremendously and I have witnessed a positive atmosphere of support and engagement with the residents.

I feel that a supported living environment should be one where the client is able to share their concerns and be involved in their support plans and the outcomes that they wish to achieve. Tara and her team seem to have managed this aspect with both empathy and understanding enabling my son to feel comfortable with even the most awkward or difficult conversations. His anxieties have decreased when he has been listened to and his concerns acted upon in a kind and helpful way. The allocation of staff that suit his needs and the continuity of care that he is receiving is helping him to enjoy his independence more with each passing week.

I hope that Glenholme continues to invest in its management structure as I feel that Marlowes is the perfect example of good leadership enabling staff and residents to enjoy their living and working environment together.”
