Wendreth Court Hosts Hydration Station to Support Healthy Living
13 Aug, 2025
This week, residents at Glenholme Wendreth Court enjoyed an impromptu hydration station designed to encourage fluid intake and promote wellbeing.
The mobile station was set up with a colourful and refreshing selection of options, including bowls of jelly, fresh fruits such as watermelon, pineapple, and grapes, fruity punch, and a variety of chilled juices. Staff moved the station around the home so that every resident had the opportunity to enjoy a drink or snack without having to leave their favourite chair or activity.
Maintaining good hydration is important for everyone, but it is particularly vital for people living with dementia. Even mild dehydration can have a noticeable effect on health and wellbeing, and in dementia it can sometimes mimic or worsen symptoms such as confusion, fatigue, irritability and difficulty concentrating.
Ensuring residents drink enough fluids is a key part of daily care at Wendreth Court. The team regularly offers drinks, creates opportunities for social refreshment such as tea rounds, and introduces fun ideas like the hydration station to encourage greater fluid intake in an enjoyable way.
The hydration station was both practical and uplifting. The bright colours of the fruit, the appealing variety of drinks, and the friendly interaction with staff created a moment of enjoyment as well as a health benefit. Many residents took the opportunity to try something different, while others enjoyed a familiar favourite.
By bringing the refreshments directly to residents, the team ensured that those who may find it difficult to access communal areas could still take part. This approach reflects Glenholme’s emphasis on inclusivity and ensuring that every individual is supported to maintain their health in ways that work for them.
With warmer weather increasing the risk of dehydration, families and friends are encouraged to be mindful of how much their loved ones are drinking. Offering a variety of drinks and hydrating foods such as fruit can help make it easier and more appealing to stay hydrated.
